Hey guys! How are you doing during the flu season? I have already caught a cold myself and it's really hard to come over it since everyone around is sneezing and sniffling as well. You can deal with a fever and a running nose quite fast but there is always one thing that stays with you and doesn't want to go away anywhere. Yes, it's a cough. It seems like it clings to everyone on the buses and trains, so the circle of sicknesses never ends. I had the same problem and believe me, I tried many different remedies until I found out about home-made cough candies. They combine the best what mother nature has to offer and taste delicious too! There are four main ingredients that you need: honey, lemon and ginger and you! So, let's see how we can make those tasty first-aid drops.

HOME-MADE COUGH CANDIES – HOW DO I MAKE THEM?

Ingredients:

  • 1dl of water

  • 2dl of sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of honey

  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice

  • ½ teaspoon of ground ginger

  • 10 to 20 drops of aroma extract of your choosing (optional)

  • powdered sugar

First, you need to cover a baking sheet with a baking paper. It is where you are going to place your home-made cough candies. Put water, sugar, honey, fresh lemon juice and ground ginger into a saucepan and cook the mixture until it reaches 150 degrees Celsius. Remember to stir the mixture with a metal whisk, so that it doesn't burn. If you don't have a candy thermometer, to check the temperature, you can always try if it's ready by putting a small amount into ice cold water. If it cracks, then it's good to be taken from the stove. Let it cool down for a few minutes and then, using a tablespoon, drop the mixture onto the baking paper. After that, let them cool down and sprinkle your home-made cough candies with powdered sugar so that they don't stick to each other. They will preserve longer if you store them in a dry and coll place. If they get any moisture, you can always add more powdered sugar.

Now you and your family are well-protected during the flu season. Keep your home-made cough candies always with you. You never know when you are going to need them!
